WELCOME TO HIWINUI SCHOOL

We believe every learner has potential and can achieve at their best.

Our classroom programmes are designed so all learners thrive. At Hiwinui School our Teachers and Learning Assistants are focused on challenging learners in a supportive and nurturing way. We spend time getting to know the strengths of each learner and what they love most. Relationships with our learners and their whānau are paramount.

Our approach to learning includes: explicit teaching, play based learning within our junior school, enviro programmes, academic challenges and EOTC.   Learning is connected to the world around us; our school environment and our wider rural setting. We ‘push the boundaries’ so all learners get ‘the best deal’! This is achieved through intervention programmes and also acceleration programmes with additional opportunities for learners to shine.

Our values of being Pathfinders, being Energised, showing Awhi and acting as Kaitiaki are embedded across our school and infused within our school curriculum. These values support our learners to ‘Reach their Peak’!

New Y5-6 Teacher
14 Dec 2025

I am pleased to announce that Erin Renshaw (Mrs Renshaw) will be our Y5-6 teacher for 2026.  She has been currently teaching at Kairanga School as a LAT teacher and will officially begin her teaching career with us here at Hiwinui as a beginning teacher.  Erin is very excited and happy to join our team,  She will be here on Monday 15th December to be welcomed alongside Mrs Georgia Freeman and Mātua Dan Hodgetts.   The students who will be taught by Erin in 2026 will be with her and Dean during transition classes.   Those students not returning to Hiwinui School for 2026 (Year 8's etc) are asked to bring their togs and will be with Pou Jo during transition time.  Ngā Mihi Anna Hagan

EPIC PARENTS FACEBOOK GROUP
12 Dec 2025

Thanks to our incredible school families that initiated the Hiwinui Epic Parents Facebook Messenger chat group. This group has been instrumental in sharing information of upcoming fundraising events, most importantly the regular hay jobs that contribute generously to our fundraising efforts. If you are not part of this group, please join at this link, OR email jacki@hiwinui.school.nz so she can add you to the chat. We love new families getting involved—these fundraisers are a lot of fun, a great workout, and a fantastic way to get to know your school community.
