WELCOME TO HIWINUI SCHOOL

We believe every learner has potential and can achieve at their best.

Our classroom programmes are designed so all learners thrive. At Hiwinui School our Teachers and Learning Assistants are focused on challenging learners in a supportive and nurturing way. We spend time getting to know the strengths of each learner and what they love most. Relationships with our learners and their whānau are paramount.

Our approach to learning includes: explicit teaching, play based learning within our junior school, enviro programmes, academic challenges and EOTC. Learning is connected to the world around us; our school environment and our wider rural setting. We ‘push the boundaries’ so all learners get ‘the best deal’! This is achieved through intervention programmes and also acceleration programmes with additional opportunities for learners to shine.

Our values of being Pathfinders, being Energised, showing Awhi and acting as Kaitiaki are embedded across our school and infused within our school curriculum. These values support our learners to ‘Reach their Peak’!

We are so excited to be coming back to Hiwinui School and seeing all our amazing friends again! Being around all your kindness, energy and warmth is always a highlight of our year - we can't wait!

We feel very privileged to be sharing in the students learning around how we can take care of our hauora, what’s inside our bodies, what do all living things need to stay alive, what makes our brain the control centre of our body, & how we get energy from the food we eat with Rooms 1-3, how we take care of our hauora, what it takes to be a great team member, & what makes us unique & special with Rooms 4-5, and how resilience, inclusion, acceptance, patience, kindness, empathy & mindset helps to be a great leader with Room 6.

Life Ed is a charitable trust that aims to inspire learners and their families to make positive decisions about their wellbeing, and receives no government funding. If you would like to support our worthy cause, we will have the following items available on February 20th-25th:

School back on as usual tomorrow

Kia ora whānau,

This is a quick message to let you know that school will be back on as usual tomorrow.

Please take care on the roads during your morning commute. We look forward to seeing everyone at the normal time for another great day of learning!

Bikes for triathlon

Kia ora,

Our Hiwinui School Triathlon is on Wednesday, starting with our Wharite children at 11.00am and then moving onto our Maharahara children from approx 11.45am. Families are more than welcome to come support at this time.

Please can we have all bikes at school tommorrow for practices. (We will store bikes inside at school overnight, unless they need it afterschool). If your child doesn’t have a bike they are absolutely welcome to be part of our duathlon. We look forward to seeing all our children energised about this event!
