OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS - Hiwinui School
The Board of Trustees of Hiwinui School invites applications from ‘out of zone’ families who wish to enrol their child at Hiwinui School beginning in Term 3 or Term 4 2026 . The Board estimates there will be approximately 6 out-of-zone places available across Years 3-4 and Years 6-7 only. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within our school’s home zone.
Enrolments at Hiwinui School are governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our school website, or from the office. On our website you are welcome to download an ‘Out of Zone’ application form.
The deadline for receipt of applications for our out of zone placements is Noon Thursday 9th July 2026.
If the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. The ballot will be held on Monday 13 July 2026. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot as soon as practicable following the ballot.
We are after volunteers to supervise the Seniors cooking and preparing the sausages on Fridays for the rest of the term, you are required from 12pm -1.15pm. If you are able to help out please sign up via the link below.

If you would like your child to be added to the “Walking Home List”, please let the office know. This list is for students who have parent approval to walk home independently.
Students who are not on this list will require parent permission communicated to the school office before walking home. This helps us keep all students safe and ensures we know each child’s after-school arrangements.
We also recommend that students walking home wear a Hi-Vis vest for visibility and safety.
Regular attendance at school is important to your child’s success and there is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility. As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your child attends school every day. Our government has set a national target of 80% of students attending school at least 90% of the time. This means that ākonga should be absent for no more than one day a fortnight to ensure that they can have continued success at school.
If your child is going to be absent for any reason it is essential that you let us know as soon as possible. It is important that you phone us, or send us an email to office@hiwinui.co.nz or message us on HERO or Skool Loop to confirm your child’s absence and please provide us with the reason.
We acknowledge that there are genuine reasons students may occasionally be absent. However, without regular attendance your child will struggle to make progress. If your child is absent regularly, or for extended periods, we will reach out to you to discuss the situation. We are committed to supporting your child to attend school. If you’re having difficulty getting your child to school, you can ask for support by:
• speaking with your child’s teacher,
• sending us a message on HERO, or
• calling us on 06 3268078 and ask to speak to Anna Hagan
We can work with you to develop a support plan that addresses any barriers to regular attendance. More information on attendance, including your rights and responsibilities as parents or caregivers, is available on the Ministry of Education’s webpage: https://www.education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/attendance
You can view your child's attendance in Hero.
Our Attendance Management Plan is attached.
Exciting news!
Our slightly redesigned Hiwinui Purple Event Tops ($40) and Hiwinui Bucket Hats ($19) are now available to purchase from NZ Uniforms.
We wanted to make it easier for families to purchase uniform items, and NZ Uniforms offers both in-store stock and the option to purchase online at:
https://hiwinuischoo.nzuniforms.com/
All students will be required to own their own Hiwinui Event Top by Term 2, 2026. This top is to be worn when representing the school at events and sports fixtures.
If you have already purchased a Hiwinui Event Top, please don’t worry — these are still acceptable.
Please also ensure your child has a Hiwinui Bucket Hat, which is to be worn during Terms 1 and 4.
